Will I need a retainer?

Teeth continue to move over your lifetime. Our patients receive upper and lower removable retainers after orthodontic treatment. You will want to protect and maintain your beautiful new smile, and your teeth will move if you don’t follow through. Retainers are forever!

What are the different types of retainers?

Removable Retainers

Retainers are mostly worn at night. They are made of a comfortable plastic material. If you don’t wear your retainer regularly, it will start to feel tight. This is a sign that you need to wear your retainer more often. If you don’t wear your retainers over time, they will stop fitting. Make sure to let us know if you are trouble with your retainer. We want to get you back on track as soon as possible.

Bonded Retainers

Upper and lower front teeth are often the most crowded and twisted at the start of treatment. Your teeth have a memory of where they started; therefore, we often place a bonded wire behind the teeth after your braces come off. This little wire can’t be seen but it protects against tooth movement if you forget to wear your removable retainer. Most people are really glad to have this added protection.
